ACRYLIC PAINTING COURSE (General Subjects)
6-Week Course
Sunday 15th February – 22nd March
4:30–7:30 pm

During each 3-hour session, we’ll create original paintings from start to finish, each one designed to teach you different aspects of painting, including colour mixing and theory, brush handling, composition, transferring images from a photograph, the theory behind a great abstract painting, portraits, landscape and more.

What You Will Learn:

  • Understanding art materials and their uses

  • Techniques for transferring images from printouts

  • Proper brush handling methods

  • Colour theory and mixing techniques (say goodbye to muddy colours!)

  • Fundamentals of composition

  • Key principles of abstract painting

  • Develop a keen eye for detail by observing and appreciating the subtle nuances that elevate a painting

What to Expect:

  • Paintings of Still Life, Landscapes, Portraits, and Abstract pieces inspired by the Great Masters

  • Personalised guidance and expert advice or simple feedback (as required)

  • A 3-hour evening in the company of art and gentle jazz music while sipping herbal tea;

  • Experience level: Absolute beginners welcome, as well as those looking to refine their portrait skills.

PORTRAIT PROPORTIONS AND COLOUR MIXING COURSE
6-Week Course
Friday 20th February – 27th March
6:00–9:00pm

Learn to truly see and paint the human face.

This immersive six-week course will guide you through the foundations of portraiture — from expressive charcoal drawing to colour mixing and acrylic painting. You’ll explore chiaroscuro, master accurate facial proportions, and discover how digital tools can support your painting process.

Working step-by-step with expert guidance throughout, you’ll build confidence, technical skill, and a deeper understanding of tone and colour.

What you’ll create:
• Charcoal preparatory studies from chiaroscuro portraits
• Tonal and colour-mixing exercises using a limited palette
• A finished portrait in acrylic on canvas or paper

Experience level:
Absolute beginners welcome, as well as those looking to refine their portrait skills.

Your Tutor:
Chris Eastham is a Leeds-based Portrait Painter and Printmaker, Fine Art graduate, and experienced art educator. She was a successful contestant on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year (2020) and regularly exhibits her work. Her public artwork A Thread Through Time can be seen on Neville Street in Leeds.
